Trip to Melbourne Day 1 - Holbrook

We eventually left Melbourne Thursday morning after saying goodbye to all the neighbours and Nanny. Daddy had gone to work already, after checking the car was all trip-worthy and giving big hugs and kisses bye-bye. Two toilet stops and an RBT later we eventually reached Holbrook. It was pleasant weather, if a tad overcast, and the kids were glad to get out of the car and run a bit wild for a while. Ronin had asked to stop here at the Big Submarine. It was always a favourite of Taylor's at that age too. They climbed over the sunken hulk of the HMAS Otway for a while as I snapped away before we checked out the prop and torpedo and ran they ran around wildly!

We were soon on our way again and were surpised to find the new Albury by-pass recently opened. Even though we took the city centre exit so we could fuel up and grab some fast food lunch at KFC the new road saved us about half an hour! I didn't think we'd make it on time but shortly after 5.15pm we pulled into Mum and Dad's in Kilmore. Despite hearing about it from them, we were amazed at the size and progress of the Village Community centre, building of which is now well underway - it's so huge!

Dad cooked us a fabulous meal of pickled pork and all the trimmings, it was nostalgic, comfort food and very yummy - thanks Pa! Ronin had "normal" food of a vegemite sandwich and frozen yogurt and amazed his grandparents with creating letters of the alphabet out of pencils on the floor! Dad showed me his new medals and bars from the Malaysian government for the Malay police action he was involved in with the Navy. Just in time for Anzac Day! And he also showed Ronin and I his latest model navy ships including a submarine which impressed Ronin no end after our Holbrook visit!

Finally we made it to Craigieburn where we are bunking at with my sister Di and her two lovely boys Rhys and Jake. My kids, especially Ronin I think, were thrilled to see them all! After a catch up we eventually all got to bed, Di and I pretty late. It was a restless night for the little guy but apart from a visit to a local park and coffee shop we had a fairly quiet day before the boys got home from school and we started the basketball runs. The younger 3 are all in bed as I sit here waiting for Di and Rhys to get home from his game. It's great to see my family and home town, although of course we miss our Canberra home. Will try to keep up to date while we're here!

Meanwhile here are some pics from Holbrook NSW, on our way to Melbourne!

Especially for Daddy, who we miss heaps - love you baby! :(
