Trying is Everything

Well, it's a Proud Mummy Moment for me this week! Totally unprompted by family or friends, and totally alone, Taylor signed up for the Weetbix Tryathalon which was last Sunday here in Canberra. Apart from struggling through swimming lessons, riding her bike to school on the odd occasion and school sports, she has no experience and did no training. Cool as a cucumber (well, she did have SOME butterflies, but happy excited ones!) she rolled up at the venue with the fam in tow for the big event. It was forecast for a hot one so we were glad it was an early morning event, despite having to get up at the crack of dawn on a Sunday! It was held at the Australian Institute of Sport which had the advantage, unlike other cities holding this event, of running the swim stage in a pool! The 7 to 10 year olds had to swim 75m, cycle 3km then run 500m. She did it well and in good time, despite struggling through the swim leg (about a 3rd of the kids took a foam noodle floatation device from the helpers, and she was one of them) and walking part of the run leg at the end. She wasn't happy at the finish, as she felt she hadn't done well but we were so excited that she finished (and in one piece!), what a little star! This event has no 'winners' or 'losers' and no times, it is merely a participatoin sport and each child completing the tryathalon receives a certificate and medal. She wasn't lucky enough to receive a lucky draw prize but they gave away 4 new bikes and a tonne of other stuff and in the end she declared it a success. At first she was never going to do it again, but once she calmed down she started planning the training for next year, when she shoots up to the 11 to 15 age group where the distances are doubled. Well done baby, we are SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!

Ronin enjoyed bits of it but waiting for the swim leg to start the running around for the other two legs was a bit of a yawn for him, not even his "Batman" face paint (it was the girl's first time painting and it was free, so no great masterpiece LOL!) could keep him happy but he is looking forward to turning 7 and having his shot!

Also on the Proud Mummy subject, I got a message on my answering machine yesterday from Taylor's teacher saying how proud SHE was of Taylor, for being such a good friend and helping others. Her BFF had an earache and Tay looked after her all day. What a big heart she has sometimes!

And not to be outdone, Ronin has also had a good week. His Preschool teacher has been waxing lyrical about him, she finds his mind fascinating she says! Don't we all! She also appreciated his suggestion for the new play corner which was to make a "Wall of Doom" ROFL - Vintage Roni! And his little masterpieces at home have kept us all amazed. Drawing and building....a budding architect perhaps?

Chris has been tearing his hair out this week with work coming out his ears (what a picture!) and has been on the road for most of it. I THINK he was home last night for a few hours! Can't wait for the holiday so we can all have some time together!

As for me, I had a lovely night out tonight, MIL looked after the kids, and I went to see not one but TWO movies all by myself! Ah, bliss! "Vantage Point" and "The Other Boleyn Girl" - both good flicks! I should have been scrapbooking but my mojo has melted in the heat I think, I'm avoiding my scrap room like the plague and there are things in there ALMOST finished that I MUST get done! And if you got this month's For Keeps you would have seen these two layouts in the Travel section, there are a few more coming up in mags soon, but I really am slack at submitting, I must make it a more regular thing!

That's it for now though, have a nice weekend everyone!

Love, Trace xx
