It was a long week from the time Taylor's teacher rang me to tell us that she had won an Award for Excellence in Performing Arts which would be presented at her Year 5 Graduation (to middle school) ceremony. She had no idea and we had to keep it a secret. Chris made sure his calendar was clear for the day so he could come. There are almost 100 students in Year 5, it is the largest school (and largest primary school) in the ACT, and only 9 awards were presented. Between 4 and 6 students were nominated by the teachers in the various categories and then the teachers, the principal and executive teacher chose the winner. She received an engraved medal and her name on a perpetual plaque that is displayed in the school foyer.

So those are the facts but it doesn't explain to you how proud we were, how excited and proud she was to receive it and how special the day was! It was very hard to take photos with my eyes full of tears and my hands shaking with emotion!!! Her award was the 4th on the program but they almost missed it altogether and managed to squeeze it in second last, so I guess she had just about given up being nominated for something, which was what she was hoping for! I know I had a horrible thought that it would be forgotten, how bad would that have been??? LOL!
But it went smoothly and along with her fantastic school report, was a fitting end to her primary school years. I truly hope this is a taste of things for her in her school and extra-curricular life to come!
Meanwhile, Ronin was winding up his pre-school year in his typical cool dude style, he was just happy to flap a casual wave at everyone as he exited the school gate (although he did say goodbye to his teachers and gave them cuddles, at my behest!). That morning when he had woken up we were having a little cuddle and I asked him if he was excited about his last day. He said he was sad, because he wouldn't get to play with his friends any more. I explained that it was only 6 weeks til he would see most of them in Big School. That seemed to appease him but he still looked worried and asked "Will my face still look the same?". I assured him it would! He apparently had been worried they all would look different and wouldn't recognise each other LOL!!!
Today I picked up his uniform (and Taylor's). His little shorts, school tee and jacket, so cute! He was looking around the school so intently, like he hadn't been there a million times before, only this time it was HIS school. He asked if he would be starting there today? I laughed and explained it would be next year, after the holidays!
And so begins a new chapter in our family life. I just can't imagine what next year will be like! But bring it on!
